Nigerian woman gives birth on airplane traveling from Turkey to the UK

On a Turkish Airlines trip from Manchester, UK to Istanbul, Turkey, a pregnant Nigerian woman gave birth to a bouncing baby girl.

On Monday, September 5, the mother, who has been identified as Nweke Ifeoma, went into labor during the journey and delivered her baby safely.

The flight attendants attempted to move the Nigerian passenger to a more private area of the aircraft and announced that they were looking for a doctor over the loudspeaker.

By chance, a doctor intervened and assisted in the delivery of the baby at 33,000 feet along with the air hosts and hostesses.

The pilot changed the plane’s destination to Vienna International Airport in Austria after cutting the baby’s umbilical chord.

Turkish Airlines said in a statement that the plane was redirected to Vienna International Airport and that paramedics were waiting for the new mother and child there when they landed.

The statement said, “Cabin crew members are trained for these types of scenarios.”

Before transporting them to the hospital, paramedics met the new mother and her infant on the runway.

Both mother and infant were discovered to be in good health at the time this article was written, though the baby’s name and weight have not been made public.
