Italian footballer arrested for cruel murder of his former partner with hammer – Entertainment SA

Former Napoli youth player Giovanni Padovani allegedly beat his ex-girlfriend to death with a hammer and a baseball bat after leaving his team’s training sessions citing ‘personal reasons, a court heard. 

Padovani had previously been a youth player within Napoli’s academy, but has been a journeyman player, flitting between clubs in Serie C and Serie D. However, barely one month after signing for Sicilian fourth-tier side Sancataldese, he reportedly left the team’s camp to confront Alessandra, where he is alleged to have murdered her. 

The Italian player is currently on trial on suspicion of attacking and murdering his former partner Alessandra, According to police, Padovani allegedly left his team on the eve of a cup tie and flew to bologna to lie in wait for his former lover Alessandra, as she arrived home he then ambushed her in the lobby of her apartment building. 

She was on the phone with her sister Stefania who heard her agonizing screams as she was being attacked. 

The sister told a local TV station: “She got out of her car and started screaming, ‘No Padovani, no, I beg you, help.’ 

“I was on the phone. I immediately called the Carabinieri who arrived straight away. 

“I live 30km away. In the end, he beat her to death.” She said. 

Alessandra and Padovani had been a couple for around a year, according to reports in Italy. 

However, they spent most of their time apart as she lived in Bologna and he played in Sicily. 

According to the testimony of neighbors, many disputes have broken out within the couple in recent months, Padovani is said to have even sabotaged Alessandra’s car and sounds of breaking objects were heard several times in their apartment.

After they separated, he allegedly harassed her with messages and calls throughout the day and night. This is when Alessandra reported Padovani for stalking. 

This case has caused shockwaves and anger throughout Italy, amid claims the justice system has failed to protect women from abusers.
